Therapy is a means of providing an ongoing support and intervention to help the individual, couple or family deal with or change personal and private issues and problems that they have not been able to satisfactorily handle on their own.
Although we may focus on the origins of issues, this only serves to provide a deeper level of insight and understanding which allows you to resolve past issues and move forward. Acknowledging the past, both the good and bad, in therapy can actually help build the desired relationships in your life.
LBPS offers a comfortable and secure setting for your child’s supervised visitation. We provide a well appointed playroom with options for children of all ages. It is a comfortable space for parents and their children to spend quality time. Our procedures and our staff are focused on the child(ren) feeling safe. Our staff often works in pairs and provides comprehensive and detailed reports. We have a secure check in policy, clear rules and expectations for appropriate behavior, and maintain private for all involved. Supervised visitation is provided by our staff of mental health clinicians and professional life coaches.
Ellen Zimmerman, LBPS’s lead custody evaluator has a highly trained and diverse professional background which uniquely qualifies her to assist you and your family. Ellen was certified in Comprehensive Custody Evaluation by Barry Bricklin, Ph.D. and Gail Elliot, Ph.D., in 2007.
She has been working with children and families for over 25 years as a special education teacher, school counselor, district director of student support services, county mental health therapist, and is continuing her work in private practice. She is a child developmental specialist who brings a child-centered approach to her work. This allows families to work through issues related to custody evaluation with someone who is going to help them better understand the needs of their child and their role as a positive parent. Ellen’s approach allows families to grow and learn during what is often a difficult time.
I truly enjoy my job, and each of my clients. I enjoy finding out about people, and how they work, and have never gotten bored. I value each person that I work with – I view it as an honor that they chose to share their lives with me.
It sounds cliché, but admitting that you need help is the opposite of being weak and the first step to feeling better. I believe that everyone can benefit from therapy.
Sometimes they do. The same kinds of events that affect adults affect a child – and they do not have the coping tools or control over their lives that adults have. Some children who are sad, overanxious or hyperactive can benefit tremendously from therapy.
The therapist-patient relationship is strictly confidential. As a rule, I am not able to reveal any information, even that you are a client without specific written permission from you. Unless you instruct me otherwise, I will never tell anyone that you are in therapy or a client of mine; you should be in complete control.
In order to make that decision, you have to be able to distinguish one from the other.
Both Therapy and Coaching talk about goals, fears and what holds you back, however Therapy has a healing intent while Coaching is goal orientated.
